Best for:

Important Info:
While the SB-900 was designed for Nikon DSLR cameras, yhe Nikon SB‑900 can work with Nikon Z-series mirrorless cameras, but with some important limitations compared to Nikon DSLRs.

✅ What Works:

• Basic i‑TTL and Manual Flash Modes – The SB‑900 fires and adjusts exposure correctly using Nikon’s Creative Lighting System (CLS), even when mounted on a Z-series body.

• Optical Wireless – It can be used as a master or remote flash in off-camera setups via Nikon CLS.

⚠️ What Doesn’t Work or Is Limited:

• Unified Flash Control Menu – The SB‑900 isn’t supported in the Z-camera’s internal flash menu. You’ll need to dial settings (mode, zoom, pattern) directly on the flash itself.

• AF-assist Light – The AF assist beam (infrared) doesn’t function on Z-series bodies because it uses red/IR light, while Z cameras rely on green/blue sensors.
